Bose was awarded the Padma Vibhushan in 1954, for his contribution to Indian art. In 1930, Bose created an iconic image of a black-on-white linocut print of Mahatma Gandhi walking with a staff, to mark the occasion of Gandhi’s arrest for protesting the British tax on salt and to show his support for the non-violence movement. He was also influenced by the works of artist Abanindranath Tagore, nephew of Rabindranath Tagore, and became his student. As a young artist, Bose was influenced by the artworks of Ajanta caves.
